beyond-level-1No doubt, we are living in tumultuous times. Social media is closing the gap and there are many who are becoming enlightened. Unfortunately the media gods are exercising their right to control the emotion of the public often with sensational stories. Those whom have recently become enlightened are left in a bewildered state, often heard saying things along the lines of “Where do we go from here?” Well, I’m going to answer that question for you. The answer is much simpler than it may seems, yet much harder to practice. We must reach beyond level 1.

In saying Level 1, I am referring to the basic level. Level 1 is just surviving, barely living. In Level 1, we go to work, go to school, hang out with our friends, eat and sleep. There is no need, desire or interest than to do more than just live a normal life. In Level 1 we may indulge ourselves with the problems of our times, yet not half as much interest is spent on working solutions. In level 1, we can point out the problems with previous solutions and previous leaders yet do not feel compelled to make any real difference or we feel that difference is out of our reach. In level 1 we aspire for more instant gratification and fail to ego check ourselves because material things speak more for us. When I refer to material things, this can go both ways. We can feel more important by having a better car, job, or house than others. Or to the contrary, we may also feel more important because we lack those things and instead use our energy to spend time in the community and reading culturally and historically sensitive books.

Level 1 is not a bad place, it is just simply basic. It seems complex because there were so many things listed within Level 1, but no matter the complexity the outcome is stagnation. We fail to inspire others, we lack responsibility, and we shy away from accountability.

Our goal should be to go beyond level 1. I have identified what I consider things that fall within Levels 2 – Level 5 and I’d can’t wait to share them with you in the coming weeks.
